A broken-hearted girl, relative oi Colonel Alfred Dreyfus, the central figure of the famous Drevlns case m r ranee, is suing the United States Go' - eminent for £27,603',000, so that she can have lots of babies. Mrs. Rolhmde Dreyfus Permit, who recently divorced her young husband, has instructed lawyers to pursue her claim to the fortune of Jean Mallei. America’s first oil king. Mallet was a. parish priest in France, but he fell in love with a beautiful parishioner, and was unfrocked because of her. llis mother never forgave him ; in despair Mallet came to America with his sweetheart, and they made their home in Ohio nearly a hundred years ago. • Oil was found on their land, and Mallet sold his property for £2,000,000. His wife died before he did. and as lie left no will his fortune automatically went to his mother for probate. Otlieials constantly wrote to her, but she saw the American stamps on their letters, thought they came from her disowned son, and refused to open them. A grent-grand-daughler loiind those letters years ago. She filed a. claim to the fortune, which has increased by compound interest lo £27,600.000, but she failed on the ground that the money had not been claimed within 20 years. Mrs. Pecaut said “I am going to try again to retrieve that fortune. 1 am in the direct line ol descent, and I know 1 am entitled to it“l am so unhappy over the failure ol mv marriage that I want something 1° occupy mv mind. If I get the money eventually 1 am going to marry some one nice and have lots and lots oi babies.
