GISBORNE APPLE EXPORT
10,227 CASES TO DATE BIG SHIPMENT YESTERDAY A further 2419 cases of apples were shipped by the s.s. Wainui for Wellington yesterday, for transhipment to overseas markets. Most of the cases were for the United Kingdom. For the season to date. 10.227 cases have been shipped from Gisborne for export. This' is a marked increase on last season's total. Last year provided the second smallest export from Gisborne since the trade commenced from this port in 1926. anil during the whole season only 4523 cases were dispatched, while to March- 31 the total was only 2747 cases. In 1934 the shipments to March 31 numbered 13.724 cases, while for the whole season the total was 22.051 cases. Early in the season it was expected that Cisborne's exports this year would total approximately 20.000 'cases, lint following the damage from hail just after the fruit had begun to swell and the storm loss last mouth, this estimate was revised, and a slight reduction was anticipated. The fruit export, season is now about half-way through, and it seems as though the original estimate of 20.000 cases may not be far wrong. Two direct shipments of apples have been made from Gisborne so far this season, and arrangements are beingt made for further apple loadings at. Gisborne in the near future.
