Romantic Figure
THERE were few great romantic figures of history after the days of the Crusades until Don .Tohn ;of Austria appeared on the scene in thfi sixteenth century. A Prince of Spain, he fought the great sea battle "ot Lepanto and beat the Turns, an encounter which experts assert outrivalled even the Spanisn Armada. Mr. George Hloe.oiribe, in "Don John of Austria," tells the story of his amazing career, but what will interest, readers is the fact, thajt Don J oli n put aside all the tempting offers made to him by various European Powers in order to help the cause of Mary Queen of Scots. Mary looked for support from the Continent —all in vain, it: is true —but Mr. Slocombe's account of these days of intrigue is of outstanding interest.
