Detective Fiction
TN detective fiction favourite characters are more and more essential, and Mr. Andrew Soutar, in 'Facing East," provides another 'hineas Spi.nnct story. Phineas is, if uiything, more conceited than ever, but his arrogance is tinged with ability which rises superior to that of the orthodox detective force. On this occasion there is a country house murder, and the "Pacing East" title is symbolic of the complications in India which have to be unravelled before the solution is provided by Phineas. Mr. Soutar's own servant ::iid the villainous housekeeper and chauffeur are well drawn.
