DISTURBANCE IN FLAT

SEQUEL IN COURT COUPLE FROM AUSTRALIA (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. A sequel to a disturbance in a Mount Eden Hat was the appearance in the Police Court this morning of Henry Patrick Wood, aged 36, a tailor's cutter, charged with assaulting] Muriel Lavina Wilson on Tuesday. The police said that accused, who was tiying apart from his wife, and Mrs. Wilson, who was living apart from her husband, arrived from Australia by tho Niagara on February 2 and had since been living in a flat' at Mt. Eden. On three occasions Mrs. Wilson complained to the police about Wood, asking for protection. She had considerable means, and put her money into a joint account A'ith accused. This apparently led to trouble. On Tuesday last, in response to an urgent message, 'two detectives visitid the flat and found Mrs. Wilson with razor marks on both sides of her throat, 1 hands, and chest Mrs. Wilson, in evidence, admitted that they had been living together as "Mr and Mrs. Wood." and also that .he hail sent for the police. .Replying to the magistrate, she said die could notj remember what "happened for she was so hysterical at' the time. Woof! was shaving. She tried to prevent him getting out of the window when he .injured her. "It serves me right," said witness. "I was chasing around after other men. He was only trying me. I've been wilful and wayward. He's saved me from it.'" Accused's counsel, Mr. Thwa.iles, said that Mrs. Wilson wanted to return to Australia with Wcod on to-morrow's boat. She had no fear of him. He had lone his best to look after her. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., adiourned the hearing .till Saturday to see if the couple ' left Auckland to-morrow. Wood was dlowcd bail on his own recognisance of QIC Mrs. Wilson left the court witli a Salvation Army officer.
