(Reed. March 11, 2.40 p.m.) OTTAWA, March 10.
Canada has made no commitments regarding Imperial defence, oi- any other military activities, the Prime Minister, Mr. W. L. Mackenzie King, said in the Canadian House of Commons to-day in answering a question, lie confirmed the statement made by Mr. J. 11. Thomas in London that Imperial defence had been discussed by the Dominion Prime Ministers, who were in London for the jubilee of King George. Air. If. B. Benentt, who was then the Canadian Prime Minister, had placed it on record that no undertakings had been asked or given. As to the League of Nations, it should be borne in mind that Canada had accepted responsibility only for those steps which had been taken by Canada. on its own behalf. In the event of military action arising from action by the League, Canada could only act with the consent of Parliament.
Mr. Bennett said he thought the Prime Minister should have pointed out that Canada might be bound by a majority decision of the League. The Prime Minister agreed that this was so.
