MISHAP AT WESTPORT nittV-TCN ON HARBOUR WALL In attempting to negotiate the Westport liar in a iiea-ty sea with a strong north-easterly wind on .Monday, the auxiliary schooner Fairburn, of about 80 tons, was driven on, to the western wall. The vessel left the wharf at, about 7 p.m. for Little Wangamii to load timber for Wellington, but, after proceeding down the river and reaching the bar the master. Captain 'Loin Sawyers, found the sea too heavy and decided to return to port. -As the Fairburn was turning she was driven on to the western wall, where she he|d for some time, enabling nil hands- -Captain Sawyers, Messrs. Later the vessel drifted up the river with the tide and stranded near the eastern wall close lo the wave basin. The Fairburn belongs to the Karamen Shipping Company and trades regularly between Wellington and Wcstport with general cargo, returning to Wellington via Little Wangamii. where she picks up timber. She is a fairly old boat, and was purchased at Auckland, the late Captain William Sawyers being in command op lo the time 'of his death, when he was mcceeded by his brother. Captain Tom Sawvers.
