PORTRAIT OF "SMITHY"

LONDON, Feb. 17.

The Australian artist, Somerset Butler, is offering the (Commonwealth Government a memorial portrait of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, which he is now finishing in his London studio.

It characteristically portrays the airman in flying kit, with his customary cheerful smile. The" figure is strikingly outlined against, a background of the Australian flag, a, wraith-like spirit of Australia holding a laurel wreath above his head.
