ITALY BANS COPIES
LONDONL Jan. 11
Record sales of the Bible last year were announced yesterday by the British and Foreign Bible Society. "The most striking advance," said a member of tno staff to a press representative, "appears to be in countries where there is the greatest unrest. In Germany, for instance, the sales of our society alone for 1934-35 rose to 153,483. an increase of 20,000 on the! previous year.
"lii Spain sales have risen since 1 lie revolution, the increase in 1934-35 being about 20,000. In Italy the last report showed ii decrease.
"Wo have been supplying Abyssin'a and Italian soldiers with Bibles. Five thousand Bibles in Jive different languages were distributed in Abyssinia. Bibles for Italians were, given out at Fort Said, but the Italian authorities objected, and we had to stop the supply. "The biggest advance has been in China, where sales have risen by 400,000 to 4.296,495. The growth of literacy is largely responsible."
