NAIL IN BOY’S LUNG
EXPERTS BAFFLED 10,000-MILE TRIP NEEDED MELBOURNE, Feb. 20. A .journey of move than 10,000 miles to save tiie life of Kelvin Rodgers, aged three, of Boort, is contemplated by the authorities of the Children’s Hospital. Kelvin swallowed a nail on November 23, 1934. The nail, which was lin. in length and half an inch in width across the head, entered the right lung. "Two operations at the hospital were unsuccessful, and the hoy was discharged. As it is unlikely that j.e will peach adult age unless the nail is removed, negotiations with the object of sending him to Professor Jackson, of Philadelphia, U.S.A., are being undertaken. The secretary of the hospital,’"Mr. 11. Barrett, has received several offers of help. Sir Charles Connibere has offered to give £125 to defray the expenses. The Union Steanv Ship Company of New' Zealand, Limited, has offered a free return passage to San Francisco for tho boy, and another passage at half rates for his- mother. Kelvin, unaware of all the plans, is playing in Boort, and shows no apparent ill-effects from the nail in his lung.
