HAWKE CUl' CHALLENGE

AUCKLAND COUNTRY WEEK

Confirmation of the dates proposed for the Hawke Cup challenge match between Poverty Bay and Manawatu was registered at the weekly meeting! of the. Poverty Bay Cricket Association's executive, held last evening. It was pointed out that the dates, February 20, 21, and 22. would he most convenient for the players selected from this district, as they would be able to reduce to the minimum their absence from business. There, were, present at the meeting Messrs. H. E. Maude, chairman, A. R. Baker, W. Stewart, V. C. R. Mitford, A Bignall, P. C. Dwyer, D. Wells, M. K. Boon. J- -1. Macdonald, J. M. Kay, and A. H. Wright, lion, secretary. Mr. Kay attended as a representative of a small committee appointed to arrange for the visit to Gisborne of the M.C.O. team. An apology for unavoidable absence was received from Mr. G. G. Fraser.

The committee received from the Auckland Cricket Association a letter acknowledging the assistance given by the Poverty Bay association in connection with the Country Week tournament, held during the holidays. The letter mentioned that the Poverty Bay team had given an excellent account of itself, and that the Auckland association had shared, with the teams engaged in the competition, disappointment regarding (lie enforced abandonment of the tournament before its normal completion. Details of a used lorry which was considered suitable for immediate needs on the oval, for mowing and other purposes, were placed before the committee, which authorised the purchase of the vehicle. The secretary was instructed to forward to the captain of the Poverty Bay iadies' representative team the congratulations of the committee on the team's fine performance at Napier last week.

A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. J. J. Macdonald for his services as secretary during the absence on leave of Mr. A. H. Wright. •' The draw for Saturday's games was made as under :

Senior A grade.—City v. Marist A, on No. 2 wicket, at OvaL; H. 5.0.8. A v. Old Boys, on No. 4 wicket, at the OvaL

Senior B giradc—High School A v. Marist B, on No. 3 wicket, at the Oval; High School B v. Gisborne Clnb, on the High School ground; Civil Service v. H. 5.0.8. B. on No. 1 wicket, at the Oval.

The points of the respective teams were stated as under:—
