TENNYSON'S HOME Tennyson's home at Freshwater, in the Isle of Wight, is for rent. It has long been a shrine To which many journey. • At Farringford, the name of the place, just off the main road from Freshwater to Alum Bay, sheltered by fine old trees which the poet loved and immortalised in his verse, he did much of his best work. Its name is irrevocably associated with his, for it was during the last, 40 years of his life—his period of residence there—that he acquired lfis prestige. The poet's connection with Farringford dates from November, 1853, when he rented it. Three years afterwards lie bought the house and estate outright.
