Working chiefly from the Napier end, an iniporlnul deviation work is in progress on the Gisborne-Napier roail, ii few miles north of Buy View, where the .sharp comers of the Whiriiiiiki 'Hill are being fill out of the main mail :hy means of. reforming a route round the hill slightly above the level of the beach. The altera I ion in Hip road has been made possible by ine raising of I he land at t he time of tin- earthquake and a considerable section fif the necessary formntion has been completed. Sections of the hill itself are .being cul away to form the Co inula i ion for the road and during the next few months the new way should be available for traffic, There are several steep corners on Whirinaki Hill which become tricky in wet weather and the deviation will be welcomed by motorists in the same way as other improvements which are being carried out on this route. I
