DEATH IN WOOLSHED

WAIKOHU CARRIER FOUND AT WHAKARAU Advice was received by the Gisborne police late yesterday afternoon that Mr. John Brough, 66, carrier, Waikohu, had been found dead in a woolshed on Mr. D. A. Smith's property, Old Constabulary road, Whakarau. At the time of his death Mr. Brough was carting wool for the station.

Last seen on Thursday evening, deceased was in good health and was accommodated in the woolshed. He was found dead in the woolshed yesterday morning and the body was brought to Gisborne in the afternoon by Constable J. McClinchy.

The late Mr. Brough was a returned soldier, having enlisted in Gisborne with the 20th Reinforcements in December, 1916. at the age of 45 years. He served in France with the Otago infantry at Messines, Passchendaele, and all the major engagements. On his return from the war Mr. Brough went to Waikohu, where he had conducted a carrying business for several years.

An inquest was held this morning before the coroner, Mr. E. L. "Walton, S.M., and after evidence of identification had been given the proceedings were adjourned to a date to be fixed. Identifying/he deceased, Mr. William Morton Jones, taxi driver, Te Karaka, stated that he had known Mr. Brough for tl'e past 12 years as a carrier residing -it Waikohu.
