TELEVISION ANNOUNCER
RED-HEADS BARRED LONDON, Dec. 16. Red-haired men and women are excluded by tlie British Broadcasting Corporation from appointment as television announcers. An official of the 8.8. C. states that they are barred because the color of their hair cannot -satisfactorily be transmitted. Despite the assurance that purely technical reasons dictated the ban, red-haired people, particularly women, are incensed. Marion Lome, auburn-haired actress, characterises the decision as absurd, adding : “1 cannot see what difference red liair can make to television.” [Last month, it was announced that the 8.8. C., which will begin the first tost television transmission from the Alexandra Palace in February, was seeking a “superwoman” as the first television announcer.]
