HITS OUT AT BRITAIN WASHINGTON, Nov. 5. Father Coughlin, America’s crusading “radio priest,” wielder of immense political influence, bitterly denounced Britain and the Bank oi England in the lirst of his winter broadcasts “We are preparing once more, ’ he said, “to become, a caispaw for saving the international bankers ol the British Empire—-no Empire unfortunately dominated by the privately-owned and controlled Bank of England. “Wa have been trapped by agreeing, directly or indirectly, to iniquitous snneI ions.

“Britain is jealous of Italy s rise as a world Power. Slle therefore promoted the present conflict by inducing (lie. Emperor of Abyssinia to -appeal to the League, instead' of apologising to Italy for border incidents.”

An allegation by the priest, that lie scented the existence of an agreement between Britain and the United States over the East African crisis brought a flat denial from Mr. William B. Phillips, the aeting-Seeretary of State.
