NATION INDICTED
CONDUCT OF NAZIS PERSECUTION OF JEWS R EYELAT ION TO I ■ EAt 1U E COMMISSIONER’S PROTEST (Elec. Tel. Copyright —Unite 4 Press Assn.) (Reed. Dec. 30. 3 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 29.
“There are few more damning indictments of a civilised nation than that of Mr. James MacDonald,” says the NewsChronicle, in discussing Air .MacDonald s letter to the League, of Nations resigning the post, of High Commissioner lor Jewish and other refugees from Germany.
The News-Chronicle draws attention to Mr. MacDonald’s revelation that 435.000 Jews and tens of thousands Christian non-Avvans classified as Jews arc deprived of citizenship and excluded from all public offices and professions or any part of German cultural and intellectual life, and are subjected to every humiliation. ' It is further pointed out that even Jewish non-Aryan children do not escape cruel forms of segregation and persecution, while Nazi publications, sponsored by the Government, stir Aryan children to hate, attack and spy upon Jews and non-Aryans, and incite parents completely to extirpate Jews. Moreover, in many parts of the country, there is a systematic "attempt- to starve Jews who, despite the prohibition of. migration and anti-Semitic campaigns in (hr cities, are fleeing to the cities as the only hope of escape, at least for a time, from the more brutal forms oi persecution. Tens oi' thousands are seeking lo escape from Germany, which is only possible if they sacrifice the whole or the greater part of their savings.
