KIDNAPPERS ARRESTED

After four days the police arrested a woman, aged 68, and her son, aged 25 years, who were, alleged to have kidnapped the eighteen-months-old child of Dr. Malmjac and to have demanded £7OO ;s ransom.

When the police were about to enter tho apartment, the son drew a revolver and threatened to kill the child unless they withdrew. The police shouted: "We promise not to arrest you. Don't tire !"

They consulted headquarters, and tho police were reinforced and ordered to make the arrest, whereupon the police broke in the door and snatched the child. They overpowered the sou and arrested tho pair, who admitted tho crime.

Protection from a crowd of 2000 was necessary to prevent, lynching. During the search, instructions as to how to feed the child were broadcast, as well as a promise from the lather to pay the ransom.

The police believe that the ransom was not wanted, and that- tho real objective of the kidnapping was to secure the child to represent the heir ol an important estate.
