GISORNE Y.M.C.A.
| DIRECTORS MEET GROUP ACTIVITIES At. a meeting of the directors of the Gisborne V.M.C.A. this week the various activities were reported on. It was shown •by the reports that the group attendances had been well maintained, over 3000 attendances being recorded for August. Preparations are well in hand in t lie gymnasium work for the forthcoming displays, at To Araroa on September 25, at Gisborne on October 3, and at Rnaloria on October 12. The physical director, Mr. H. F. Forster, reported that this year’s display would be the most spectacular yet. staged by the association and that many novel specialty items would be introduced. The boys’ division is proving to be a worth while unit in the programme of the association and it is seldom that tho weekly attendance drops below 90. The secretary reported that the unemployment situation among boys seemed much brighter and that there appeared to be a definite shortage of boys available for country work. Mr. L. Grey Barton reported that the Scout and Cub work was being well maintained and that there had'been an appreciable increase in the roll strength of the group. The activities of the hockey and basketball clubs, and t.he Harmonica. Band were also reported on. The financial position still causes the directors concern and with, membership increases in. most groups, added finance is-necessary. It .was. decided that every endeavor should be made to increase the number of sustaining subscribers. The directors are desirous that the general public should know that the V.M.C.A. is English in its origin and that each association is autonomous in its control. Any subscription made to the local association is used exclusively for the work in Gisborne.
