MEDICAL MEN’S REPORT ’ EFFICIENCY IMPAIRED MOTORISTS INDIGNANT (Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received July 29. noon.) LONDON, July 23. The Sun-Herald News Service says that motorists throughout the .country are indignant at the British Medical Association’s special. committee’s report to the Minister of Transport, following experiments, that a motorist will react even to a small quantity of alcohol. The committee reported that 3oz. of whisky was sufficient to impair a driver’s efficiency by 20 per cent. An adverse effect generally occurs even il alcohol is taken in moderate quantities some hours before driving. Motorists declare that the committee's attempt at compulsory teetotalisjn for all drivers is too sweeping. The Automobile Association says that scientific deductions Have no legislative weight. Responsibility rests with the individual. A stimulant may improve the driving. ability of a tired motorist, and have the opposite effect.on a motorist not accustomed to alcohol.
