Advice has been received by tlm Union Company that its new motor-ship Kant left. Port-Talbot. Wales, last Wednesday on her maiden voyage to New Zealand, via Safaga and Fremantle. She is due at Wellington about September 15. A vessel of 1100 tons gross, the Kant was built by Alex. Stephen and sons. Limited. Lint house. (in her trials she averaged 12 knots, and will have a fully-loaded service speed of 11 knots. She has been specially built for tie. Dunedin- Well ingt on-Nelson- New Plymouth servin', and is the tirst coastal motor-ship built by tlm Union Company. I lie Kuril is talcing a cargo of patent fuel from Wales to the Safaga May phosphate mine on the south-western corner of the. Med Sea. where on discharge she will load a shipment of phosphate for New Zealand. When the Onion Company's Waitaki arrived in New Zealand last July on her maiden voyage she also called at Safaga to load phosphates, and provider! the first direct link between New Zealand and that little-known spot for many years.
