DOCTOR’S TRAVELS
CANCER TREATMENT 0 V.E R SEAS EXPEB TENC E “In iffy opinion the position is rintcli the same ;is it has been for some time,“ said Dr. Arthur R. Moody, of Dunedin, talking of cancer on his return to New Zealand by the Nh/nv, Suvill liner Tamaroa after an extensive tour of England and Europe.
Radium uva.s used more in England than in Central Europe for the treatment of cancer, he said. In England they were now going hack to the idea of using a large dose of radium, called a radium “bomb,” a method which had originated in America many years iigo. The idea was to accomplish quickly wlmt. took a long time with small doses. The expense was the only thing against it. A great deaL of experimental work was being done in deep X-ray therapy. The apparatus was necessarily expensive hut the results were, promising. Dr. Moody’s visit was ; ri his professional interest, and was his third trip in seven years. lie considered it valuable actually to see the work being done rather than rely only on periodicals and journals. After doing some work in London lie made an extensive tour of Europe, visiting all the capitals. The standard of work done in clinics in Germany and France was fairly good, hut their idea of the treatment of patients- whs different from ours. English people would not put up with some of the tilings, such, for example, as the lack of privacy, as tliev did on the Continent.
