FARMERS’ UNION RULES CLAUSES AMENDED ACTION BY CONFERENCE (Per Press’ Association.) .Wellington, this driy. The, New Zealand Farmers’ Union conference had before it- this morning the report of a special Coim/iitree appointed to overhaul the platfbrni and rules’ of the union. The committee which was set up at the 1933 conference, consisted ol Messrs. W. B. Mhtheson, 1). Dickie, and R.. ft. Feisst. Last year’s conference had not, time to deal with the matter and postponed the discussion till this year. t’lanso six was altered to read that, in order to facilitate closer settlement, ol land, large estates should he acquired by (lie Crown at a fair value and that suitable rural lands should be purchased and homes erected tl hereon for workers who shall be entitled to purchase them on the time-payment principle.
An addition was made to clause 9 which now reads “That Crown grants, subsidies, and sums lor expendil lire by the Main Highways Board for loads and bridges shall he allocated on a definite basis,and when voted by Parliament shall he at- once available and applicable to tho particular work for which they are passed and oil no account- he diverted or allowed lo lapse, and whenever possible such grants should be expended’ by local bodies.”
Clauses 10. 11 and 13 were deJeled. Clause. 15 was amended to read : ‘‘That only ratepayers lie empowered to vole, at any election or. poll concerning, any country road board. hospital board, harbor hoard oi; .electric power . board.
The rules were given a thorough over haul and various alterations, were made:
