MANGAPAPA FLOODING
MATOKITOIvI CREEK WORK ‘REMOVAL OE WILLOWS An application is being made to the Cook County Council with a view to having willows cleared from Matokitoki Creek which recently flooded a portion of Mangapapa. This action was decided on at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council, when the following report on the matter was submitted by the borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas:—“The Matokitoki Creek overflowed its banks in the vicinity ot Ilownrth street on Monday, July 8, and flooded portion of Mangapapa. I would suggest that the Cook County Council be approached regarding the clearing of willows and other obstructions in the waterway between the Memorial Homo and the Taruheru River.” The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., believed that if the County Council would remove the willows, this would obviate much of the floodin'!. Also, a dam at the site of the old Taruheru freezing works, not now necessary, could be cut away to improve the position. : The "engineer' was instructed to confer with the county engineer.
