Sim-e the Hoods in May last, when the Manawatu River broke through a stopbank and washed into tho Moutoa swamp valuable strains of flax which Massey College, had raised, men have, been occupied in retrieving the “fans,” and speedily replanting them. The authorities also provided money to close tho breach in the bank, and'the work was finished m time to prevent tho flood of last Tuesday spilling over the area for the third time. The whole of the flax is now planted, and from this nursery millers will he-able in future years to secure for commercial ureas “fans’ of these strains of flax. which produre ail infinitely more desirable fibre than tire flax at present, being milled in thfi district.
