London.—July 10: Arrived at London, Pori. Sydney; at Cristobal, Surrey. Sailed, 'Trojan Star, from Balboa. The Minister of Education, the lion. S. Cl. Smith, proved himself to be a Maori linguist of no mean ability during the inspection of schools in tljo Ilutt Valley, when on several occasions he addressed Maori pupils in their own language. One little maid blushed and shyly hung her head when Mr Smith informed her that he loved her very much. The Minister commended the pakcha pupils for holding their Maori comrades in high honor. The answer of one Maori boy to a question caused considerable humor. When .asked by the Minister if he was a Ngati-awa, the boy replied, “No, I’m -just Smith.’’ f
