TO MEET LORD GALWAY
EX-SOLDIERS’ GATHERING RALLY AFTER RECEPTION Plans for a general gathering of returned' soldiers of the district, to meet Lord Gahvay on the occasion of his visit to Gisborne next week, were laid at a meeting of the Gisborne Returned Soldiers Association’s executive, held last evening. The rally was scheduled for 11 o’clock next Tuesday morning, the invitation of the King’s Theatre management to use the theatre being accepted gratefully. ~ Discussion took place as to the advisability of holding the gathering outdoors, but in view of the uncertainty of the weather, it was decided that no risks could be taken. The theatre will provide adequate accommodation for the ex-soldiers, who doubtless will appreciate the opportunity of gathering under cover. The character of the assemblys and details of the programme there, have been left in the hands of tjie R..S.A. by the express wish of the Governor-General, and it is, proposed to make the proceedings as informal as the occasion will allow. The ex-servicemen’s rally will follow immediately upon the close of the civic reception, which is to be tendered to Their Excellencies at the Majestic Theatre at 10 o’clock. It was requested that all who intend to take part in the returned soldiers’ welcome to the Gover-nor-General should be seated in the King’s Theatre by 10.50 a.m. A request was received by the R..S.A. executive, from the Nuhaka branch, to the effect that Their Excellencies might he persuaded to stop for a minute or two at the township on Wednesday morning, on route from Gisborne, to Wairoa. In view of the fact that the Viceregal party will halt briefly at other points in the district, it. was'felt that there should be no difficulty with regard to the 1 request of the Nuhaka ex-soldiers and general residents.
