WAIROA ROADS
COUNTY ENGINEER’S REPORT (Heralil Correspondent.) At this week's meeting of the Wairoa Comity Council the engineer, Mr. A. G. Smith, in addition to an exhaustive report on the main highways, reported generally as follows on the state of the county roads: —< “During the past month, in company with the Public Works Department’s representative, I have made an inspection of all the main highway bridges under the council’s control. 1 have found most of the bridges in fair to good order, with the exception of the old, large truss bridges. The Te Reiuga, Opouiti, Wailiua and Rakaipaka bridges are in bad condition, and will require repairs of a major nature. Minor repairs will have to be effected to smaller wooden bridges, and the painting of steel girders and superstructures carried out. Repairs to ’-he Rakaipaka and Opouiti bridges are in hand. Je Hoc suspension bridge requires to be repaired before the winter. ' Tangiwai road metalling: The. contractor is making good progress. Ardkeen road : The contractor has opened up a pit and made a start, with the carting of metal. Kopuawhara River road metalling : The contractor lias spread one coat of metal on the length of this road. Mangapoike roed metalling : The contractor has completed 75 per cent, of the .work. Mangarewarewa road metalling: This contract is completed. Maraetalia road metalling ; This contract, is completed with the exception of 400 c. .yds. Mohaka-Putere road metalling: The contractor is making good progress. Matakuhia road metalling : This contract is completed. Whakaki-Ilereheretau road metalling: This contract is nearing completion. Waimana road metalling : 'lho contractor hopes to complete the metalling before the next meeting of the council. Nuhaka River road metalling: Eiis contract is completed. ”
