MALARIA IN CEYLON
7000 DEATHS LAST MONTH FOOD SHORTAGE FEARED (..Received Fob. 4, 11 a.m.) COLOMBO, Feb. :'.. A total of 7038 deaths from malaria occurred in the north-western pro-; vinco in January. The normal death, rate is 700. Eighty per cent of the deaths were children. The Government is endeavoring to secure the services of Lieutenant-' Colonel S: P. ,James to direct an islaml-widc campaign against malaria. Colonel James worked in Ceylon 22' years ago. An Indian medical relief party is expected next week. The epidemic is definitely on the decline, but a food shortage is feared. Government relief measures are in full swing.
