TO MAJOR & MRS. RANSOM
FUNERAL OF SON
Tito huge r-ssemblage. which gathered nt the Salvation Army Hull on Saturday afternoon, constituted a- high tribute to Major ami Mis. Ransom on the occasion ■if the funeral service in connection with tlm death of their sou lan, aged lo years, who died suddenly of tetanus last veek. The citadel was well tilled with members of the local corps and personal friends of the bereaved officers, whilst •TOW (Is lined the adjacent roadway. The aisket was surrounded by numerous floral tributes, and an impressive service vas conducted by Adjutant Godin, of Napier. The proceedings opened with the singing of the hymn, "My Home is in Heaven.” Prayer was offered by Sergt.Major Calcolt, whilst Adjutant Coffin chose for the reading Revelations 21 : “And 1 saw a -new heaven and a ne\v earth.” and l’salni 23: "The Lord is My Shepherd. - ’ "They Shall be Comforted” was the title of a solo sympathetically sung by the adjutant, who also delivered an appropriate address, which was followed by a touching message from Major Ransom, the lad’s father. A memorable service closed with the .-inging of another hymn. “My Beautiful Home.” Six lads, intimate friends of Master Ransom, acted as pall-hearers. A large cortege moved off from the citadel, beaded by the Salvation Army Band, under Bandmaster Stein, playing appropriate music. After marching as far as Roebuck road, the members of the corps entered several buses and proceeded with the cortege to Taruheru cemetery. The funeral yi ovr-ssion passed inside the gates headed by the band. Another impressive service was conducted at the graveside by Adjutant Boffin as the mortal remains were placed to rest, in the pr-senco of a large assemblage. The services in the citadel yesterday were presided over by Adjutant Goffin. who took 'he occasion in the morning to refer to iho sad and tragic event, and to express to the bereaved parents the hive and sympathy of not only the members of the corps, but of the community generally. An appropriate memorial service was held in the evening and was largely attended.
