FINAL ROUNDS CONCLUDING GAME STARTED (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. In an unfinished game in the sixth iinal round 1 of the New Zealand chess tournament this morning tjeverne (Nelson), who was playing Erskine (Southland), resigned on the eighty-first move and left Erskine with nine, points for the Domillion honor. Erskine began his final game .with Gyles (Wellington) this afternoon. Ihe position at that stage was that Erskine, with, nine points, had to beat Gyles, or draw with him to win the championship, as Gyles liad eight points at the commencement of play. BeyAr (Wellington), with all Ins games completed, has tU points, and he cannot win the Dominion title, but if Erskine beats Gyles,' Beyer will be the. rumicr-up by half £V point. . If, on the other hand, GyleS Seats Erskine, these two players will be leycl in points arid a. play-off will be necessary; with Beyer iu tho third place. Gyles, to win the championship, has to’beat Erskine two glumes running.
The game, which concluded this niornJtg. wheii'lErskine beat Severne, took 7J, flours to play and extended over three flttings. It had a distinct..bearing on Vie-championship. Dunlop,, of Otago, the . 1933-34 champion, is in fourth place with wins.
