MR. CECIL ALDIN

(Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Jan. 7. noon) LONDON. Jan. C. The death is announced of Mr. Cecil Aldin, the artist.

Mr. Cecil Aidin';; charming dog studies, wherein lie captured the spirit of mischief and playfulness in the canine companions ho loved so well, have made his name famous, and dog lovers throughout the world will rcgict his death. His art Was expressed not. only in dog studies, for since his first drawing' was (published an |th,c Graphic in 1891 lie has painted a series of sporting pictures and studies ol many other subjects, two of his pictures having been purchased by the National War Museum in 1918. His most notable works were the illustration of Kipling’s “Jungle Tales” for the Pall Mall Budget in 1894-95, the Fallowfield Hunt series, in 1899-19 CO, A Dog Day, 1902, 12 Hunting Countries in 1912-13, t lie illustration of the

“Pickwick Papers” in 1910, and a collection of pictures of the old inns of England in 1919-20. His publications include “The Romance ol the Road, ‘‘Ratcatcher to Scarlet,” “Dogs of Character,” and “An Artist's Models." “Cecil Aldin’s Dogs” arc a byword amongst dog-lovers, and in his death some of England’s best-known periodicals have lost an artist whose studies must have assisted materially to build up their circulation. Mr. Cecil Charles Windsor Aldin. to give him his full name, was born in Slough in 1870, and was educated, at Eastbourne College, later studying anatomy at . South Kensington, and animal painting under Frank IV. Calderon. He was at one time M.F.H. of the Soulh Berks foxhounds.
