NEW ZEALANDERS' DAY
BOY SCOUT JAMBOREE MAORI DISPLAY MELBOURNE, Jan. 4. The New Zealanders had their day on the jamboree arena to-day, when they giave a Maori display with songs and dances which delighted thousands of spectators. JEach day a feature of the arena events has been a national pageant presented by the representatives of the various countries. The New Zealanders' effort was given with groat fervor, and was one of the best features of the programme so far. The enthusiasm of the boys has now reached a high pitch. The weather has ijeen excellent "and the health of the boys is good. All will regret the end of a >rreat gathering. Lord Baden-Powell is greatly touched at the warmth of the boys' feelings for him and Lady Baden-Powell, as typified b v the Indian Scouts' greeting when he touched their camp: "May you live 1000 years, our beloved chief,' cried the Indian leader, as Lord Baden-Powell left. A stirring address on the value of the great Scout 'movement was given by the Governor of South Australia, Sir Winston Dugaii. He said the Scouts were a gireat force, for international understanding and the peace of the. world. Here boys of all nations were meeting together, and were extending the hand of friendship. Those who only write condemning war should look around here for an example and see how to get good work done.
At the Scouts' beach sports, Boon and Snelling, New Zealanders, were first and second in their heat in the lOOyds free Style under 16. and Bevin was first in his heat over a similar distance for competitors under 18 years.
