MATAWAI NEWS

(Herald Correspondent.) There was a small attendance at the Ne.w Year dance held in the public ball. So many people are away on holiday at the beaches and oil tour that the number of pleasure-seekers is considerably reduced in Matawai. The music was provided by Miss M. Korte; and a happy evening was spent. The usual bounteous home-made supper was provided by the ladies. Many Matawai people took advantage of the fine weather on New Year’s Day to visit the Te Karaka sports, several families remaining to the dance in the evening. Mrs. F. C. Briant and family, Mahunga, are visiting Mrs. Picken, sen., Patutahi. — Mr. N. G. Hardihg returned recently from Whakatane, where he spent Christmas with his relatives.— Mrs. R. Fleming, Matawai, leaves on Thursday for a holiday visit to Tokomaru Bay.—Mr. A. J. Gibson, Matawai, is the guest of his sister, Mrs. M. .1. Thacker, Tokornaru Bay.—Miss N. Coates, Puha, is the guest of Miss A. A. Gibson, Matawai, for a few days.— Mi\_ and Mrs. F. Pert and family and Miss Emmersori, Matawai, recently returned from a holidav visit to Tauranga.
