SCOUT JAMBOREE

VISITORS DELIGHTED

BROADCAST IN MAORI

MELBOURNE, Jan. 1

The New Zealand Scouts took part in an international broadcast from the jamboree yesterday morning. Scoutmaster Robert Haraki, delivered new year greeting in Maori. He said: “New. Zealand! You should be proud of your'Scouts. ' They put up a splendid showing • with their Maori village to-day.' We greeted our chief in our pa, the whole of the tribe being in Maori costume. We are' all fit, and are enjoying every moment of this wonderful jamboree.” The boys then sang Maori songs, finishing with two fierce hakas. .

To-day was junior Scouts day at Frankston, when Brownies and Cubs gave a welcome to their chief in the Cubs’ own quaint ceremony, the Grand Howl.

Each night the Scouts gather round the camp fire and entertain themselves with songs, stories, and lectures ; .on scoutcraft. .... . . ....... The visiting Scouts are delighted with the location of the jamboree on the hillside among gum trees overlooking the sparkling waters of Pert Philip, in which leave is spent in bathing.
