A Glaring Example

a Central Hawke’s Bay property at present is to be found a glaring example of the mistake which can be made in the use of short-lived s't rains, of ryegrass in permanent pasture work. One does not look- to find southern ryegrass strains in Hawke’s Bay. but in this particular case, southern seed was utilised, doubtless on the score, of lessened cost. Two years ago, the. .farmer concerned sowed down a paddock with southern ryegrass seed, but when commencing seeding, he put about half a bushel of Hawke’s Bay perennial ryegrass seed, which he hud had on hand for some time, into the drill and used it first. In that particular paddock today, there is to 'be clearly observed a strip the width of a drill and about three chains long, composed of a good, clean, healthy sward, in which perennial ryegrass is .dominant. The rest of the paddock can only be described ,a-. a complete failure.—Telegraph.
