Parched Farm Lands
WHILE the rainfall in the Gisborne W district this year threatens to be the lowest on record, there have been no serious developments yet in regard to the feed position. However, the Hawke’s Bay coastal area is facing a serious position. The district has not had a good rain for a long lime, and in its present, dry. parched and cracked condition, the small falls which have been experienced for some months have been ot very little benefit. The coastal area tins had very little of the rains that have fallen in other parts of Hawke’s Buv.
Feed for stock is getting very short in the coastal area, and settlers are beginning to wonder .just how thes are going to carry their stock ow-i Ike summer months.
The westerly weather still ruling on the coast is making the position worse instead oi better, and a week of heavy, soaking rain is urgently required, if drought conditions, in respect to feed, are to be avoided.
