MAIN HIGHWAYS TRAFFIC
INSPECTOR’S REPORT Ihe report of the main highways traffic inspector, Mr. W. 11. Scott, to the Cook County Council to-day was as follows: —■ “No. 1 section.—l have made three trips over this district to watch heavy traffic carting and regulation of speed. “No. 2 section.—One trip was made to Motu and ail additional trip to Matawai. There is a tremendous amount of log carting, both at Matawai and Motuhora, and a close watch will have to he kept oil this highway. lam receiving every assistance from the police stationed at Matawai. “No. 3 section. —I visited this section between Gisborne and Hicks Bay. A complete check of all motor lorries carting on tho far end of the Coast highway has been taken, and weights of vehicles checked. “Prosecutions.—l have also visited Waipiro Bay, where I successfully conducted a case against a motor-driver for dangerous driving, (lie presiding J.P. taking a serious view of this class of offence. ‘‘Licenses issued.—Heavy traffic, 16; 21 renewals, 13 new applications, six previously issued by other local bodies, and one issued in place of lost license; total, 41. “Motor-cars registered during the past month totalled 87, of which 11 are garaged in the county, the remaining 76 in tho Borough of Gisborne. Total number of drivers’ licenses issued to date is 1498. “Mileage travelled. September 18 to October 16, 1478 miles; benzine used, 74 gallons.”
