Renati Te Rangipuawhc, chief of the Ngativvahiao people, took place on Saturday afternoon and was attended bv
about, 500 people, mostly Maoris. The service was conducted according to Church of England rites, deceased being a member of that Church. The first part of the ceremony took place in the meeting house and was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Waaka. At the graveside the Rev. Mr. Tnreia gave an impressive address and was assisted in the service by the Rev. Mr. Waaka and tho
Rev. Mr. Marihere. At the conclusion of the service, To Harpara, chief of the Ngatiwhakaue tribe, gave an inspiring oration. Hymns were impressively sung in Maori by a large number of those present. The tangi, which commenced at Te Puke, where. Renati died, lasted a week and
was one of the largest that has been held in the district for a considerable time.
