POVERTY BAY ASSOCIATION POSITION Ob’ TRAMS SINGLE CUP FIXTURE The weekly meeting of the Poverty Bay Hockey Association was held last evening, when arrangements were made for the ladies’ representative match on Saturday for tin Single Cup, to be played in Gisborne between Wairoa and Poverty Bay. The meeting was presided over by the chairman, Mr. L\ Sinr, and there were present also Messrs. R. Halbert. W. Tnmihana, B. Keiha, J. Henderson. W. Nikora. G. Corbett, H. Swan, G. File. B. Crosby, and W. Bullivant, bon. secretary. The Wairoa men’s team played an unsuccessful challenge match for the Single Cup a fortnight ago. and under the rules of competition for this trophy, if the men’s team fails the ladies’ team may issue a challenge for tbo cup. A letter was received from the Wairoa association agreeing to next Saturday as a suitable date for the match with the Poverty Bay ladies’ representative team, io.be played in Gisborne. As a curtain-raiser to the Single Cup engagement, it was decided that a men’s match should be played between Y.M.P. and a team representing the Umpires’ Association. This match will commence at 1.45 p.m.. and there will be no competition matches on Saturday. It was intimated at the meeting that a number of the visiting Wairoa players would be billeted, and those willing to assist in this direction were requested to inform the chairman, telephone 1530. l’t was agreed that a ladies’ team should visit Tolaga, Bay on Thursday to play the home team, and as Mr. Turbitt was unable to accompany the team, Mr. Tulioe was appointed manager. It was announced that the Y.M.O.A. senior team would visit Wairoa on Thursday to play the annual match. The draw for the men’s Thursday competition resulted as follows: —A section : Foresters A v. Y.M.P., No. 1 ground, 1.45 p.m. : Takilimn v. Defence, No. 1 ground, 3 p.m. Tt section: Y.M.C.A. (B) v. Waitulii, No. 2 ground. 1.45 p.m. Foresters, a bye. To Karaka, Waitulii and Mungatu each have one game to play, and their present points are 20, 19 and 18 respectively. Te Karaka and Mahgatu will meet on Saturday week, and Waitulii will piny one of the other teams in the competition. Should Te Karaka win their match they will win the championship. If they draw, and Waitulii win, Te Karaka and Waitulii will be level. If Mahgatu beat To Karaka, and Waitulii draw with the other team, all three teams will be level.
