WAIKOHU ROADS

THE MONTHLY MEETING The Waikohu County Council met to-day. There were present: —Crs. A. A. Fraser, chairman, 11. 11. Dods, C. Gaukrodgor, G. (I. Morice, H. C. Boys, M. Doyle, and J. Gardner. Mr L. E. Morris, Kanakanaia, wrote asking that the road and ford into his place should he attended to. —The matter was referred to the engineer. Air E. E. Williams, Matawai, asked permission to fence in 1£ acres of ground between the road and Koranga Creek near his bridge for use as a holding paddock for sheep. He intended clearing and ploughing it, and putting it down in grass.—No objection was raised to the proposal, the applicant to pay 10s a year for the privilege and to occupy the area at iris own risk. Air J. Gardner, Hilfiroroa station, wrote stating that the stock bridge on the Wharckopae run required repairing in order to make it safe. — Consideration of the matter was deferred until next month, a legal opinion to bo secured concerning the position, and in the meantime the council to accept no responsibility regarding repairs.

Air. A. Macallan, “Strathallan,” Rakauroa, wrote stating that Oliver road from his place to Rakauroa was in need of cleaning up.—The matter was referred to the engineer lor attention. Mr. D. C. Gray, Waiohika, wrote suggesting, in the event of it being decided to bridge Grey’s crossing, it would bo an improvement if the road were deviated from the No. 5 bridge, and thus eliminating Wilson’s crossing. If the Unemployment Board’s money could be used for the work, it would be a great assistance, and he would be prepared to make a pro rata contribution with the other settlers to any reasonable further expenditure that might be necessary to enable the work to be carried out. —The proposal was agreed to, and it was decided to thank Mr. Gray for his offer.

Air. AI. P. Park waited on the council asking for the construction of an extension of the Afakara road, Mangatu, to give access to his property. He said lie was prepared to contribute something towards the cost. —The matter was referred to the engineer and Cr. Gaukrodger to go into.

It was slated that the position of straying stock was becoming worse, and the chairman was deputed to make inquiries into tbo matter. It was decided do legalise a bridge site across the liangaroa River near Air. P. Slierratt’s property, and to confer with the Cook County Council and the Public Works Department regarding the erection of the bridge.
