PROTESTS IN AUCKLAND PENSIONERS’ CLAIMS (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Gaustic comment on the action of the Government in making tho -restoration of the cuts for civil -servants and member's of the 'Legfala't'uro retrospective, while the restoration to old-age pensioners will not take effect till October 1, was heard in Auckland today. Archbishop Avcrill said members of Parliament surely could not hoed it So mri'ch as 61d people who should have had the whole 10 per cent restored to therii. The Rev, Dr. J. J. North said it was a ‘ ‘.shameless action. ’ ’ Mr W. Wallace, chairman of the -Hospital Board, described it as discriedHable to the country. . 'The Rev. Father Holbrook sa'id Pariiamentariahs should 'have placed themselves last, and pensioners .and-the unemployed first. The present .'action was a great shame, and most unjust to those most deserving of ‘consideration. A similar view was expressed By the. Rev. Jasper Calder, the city missioner, who said that had the pensions restoration been iriade retrospective it would have ,been the one Budget decision that would have 'brought sunlight to old people. . ,
