A COMING STAR?
ACTRESS’ ROMANCE ENGAGED TO MAGNATE (Received August C, 2 p.m.) LONDON, August 6. There is much interest in film circles in'England in a Daily Express telegram from New York stating: “American of Mr. Joseph Schenck, the film magnate, uro expecting momentarily the announcement of his engagement to Miss Merle Obeion. She is a member of a house party to which Mr. Schenck is attached at Monto Carlo. It is expected that the marriage will take place in Europe. It is surmised that Mr. Schenck will build Miss Oberon into a star, as he did Ins former wife, Norma Talmadge.” FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENT (Received August 6,2 p.m.) NICE, August 6. A romance recently begun in London resulted in the engagement of a Tasmanian girl, Miss Merle Oberon, aged 23 years, to Mr Schenck, the president of the United Artists’ Corporation. He is 28 years her senior.
