U.S. POLITICAL DISPUTE VOTE FRAUD ALLEGED MILITIA CALLED OUT
(Elec. Tel. Copyright—Oniled Press Assn )
(Received August 6,2 p.m.) NEW” ORLEANS, Louisiana, Aug. 5. A dispute between the State political machine, headed by the United States political leader, Senator Long, and the .city administration, headed by the Mayor, Mr. Walmsley, has involved this southern metropolis in a situation tantamount to a comic opera. Alleging vote frauds, Senator Long's Lieutenant Governor, Mr. Allen, ordered the State militia to occupy the office of the registrar of voters and seize all records.
Fearing a similar occupation of the City Hall, Mr. Walmsley ordered 500 policemen to guard the building on Saturday night. Militiamen trained machine guns on the City Hall, which is directly opposite the registrar’s office. Mr. '-Walmsley immediately issued defiance to Senator Long, declaring that lie would recruit the police force to 10,000 men, and would “meet force with force.” ’Mr. Walmsley obtained a court order demanding the militia commander to show cause why lie should not relinquish; the registrar’s office, but efforts to serve the order were balked by militia guards.
