GOLD PROSPECTING
WEST COAST ACTIVITY ENGLISH COMPANY’S PLANS (Per Press Association.) WBgTFORT, last night. As a result of the visit of inspection, made .by Mr. Gerald Lovol. M.1.M.E., to the ‘Orion reef at Karamea, in the Bullet’ county, cabled advice has been! received from England that it is proA posed to expend £SOO per month in development and prospecting. The reef, which shows good payable values, i<s 40ft. in width and is situated within
and on the edge of a wide granite belt) which traverses the interior of the Kara* mea district. The conditions, therefore, are a new departure, geologically, in!' quartz mining. It is intended to drive along the course of the reef for a eon-, siderable distance. This, it is hoped, will establish large ore reserves.
Interesting visitors to town to-day were six ex-eoai miners of Milh-rtoiiv who, under the gold mining subsidy scheme, have .been doing development work in the backblocks at Karamea.: They have with them a bottle containing 9oz. of gold and also have some small nuggets. The gold has been got! by working under primitive methods, 'hut. they are bringing in a water supply for ‘fairly large scale, sluicing operations, from which much better returns in future are expected.
Waikohu County. Authority was ,gi\en for one vehicle to lie used only for the carriage of horses throughout the No. 4 district, and the extra vehicle authority was grunted.
