MOpru-hioTuitqiu institute JVUs. K. Jb\ Jackson, president, was in .the chair at iiie meeting of the MotuMotulioia Women’s Institute, held at Mrs." PeddlC’s-home on'-JEViday afternoon. The keynote of these meetings is happiness, and a cheerful note was struck at the commencement of the meeting witli the roll-call, “Something I would like to know.” Many amusing questions and answers were given, as well as useful information.

Necessary business was" dealt with. A sub-committee was appointed to arrange a programme for the husbands’ evening, to be held on June 22. Ways and means of raising the necessary funds were discussed at length, and it was proposed to hold a ping-pong tournament and card evening'iii the near future. Potatoes, which had been given by members of the institute, are to be forwarded to the Gisborne H.S.A. relief depot. An unanimous decision was reached to send a delegate to the annual conference to be held jn Wellington in July, if the necessary funds are available. Mrs. W. A. Wright was appointed to represent this institute. Mrs. Jackspn gave a comprehensive report of the council meeting held in Gisborne last month, and was accorded a vote of tliaqks for representing the institute so capably. A vote of sympathy was passed with Mrs. F. Peddle, who was injured,through slipping on concrete steps last week, and The hope was expressed that slie would soon be well. Apologies for absence Were received from Airs. H- C. Boys, Mi'S. ,<E. DerecouiT, Mrs. L.AEgan, Mrs. A. l/fiwis, and Mrs J; McKinnon. Mi's, j J. MacDonald, Tokomani Bay*, was a visitor at the meeting. Mrs. C. V. Smith, Matawai, demon-! strated how very simply the most artistic flowers could be made from paper, examples of loses, sweet peas and gladioli being shown in detail, ‘A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mi;s. Smith. fGbb'e were 10 entries for the best article knitted from two skeins of wool, which were judged as follows:—Mes<tymes R. F. Jackson (baby’s coat) and (I. Hutchins (child’s jumper), 1; Miss Q. Johannsen (cap) and Mrs. C. Haydon /hot water bag cover),- 2; Mrs. G. S. Bridge (child's sox), 3. In the cooking section (9 entries), best ginger biscuits, resulted: Mesdaines Hutchins and Twislqton, 1 and 2; Miss J. Arthur and Mesdames Bridge and Wriglit, 3. During the social half-hour an amusing competition was won by Miss M. Henderson. Tea was served by Mesdaines J. Donaldson. G. Hutchins/ R. Gibson, and Miss N’. Twisleton. The motto for the day was: “Never let your chances, like the sunbeams, pass you by; for you never miss the water till the well runs dry.”
