NEXT WEEK’S TOURNEY TWO “PRO.” SIX-ROUNDERS A meeting of the committee of the Gisborne Boxing Association was held last evening, there being present Messrs. A. S. Parker, chairman, J. Clayton, W. B. Edwards, T. gmale, F. J. Jeune, A. Heeney, A. Rice, W. Mason, It. Aislabie, G. 11. Sceats, and G. V. Lynex. Apologies were received from Messrs. It. Humphreys and J. M. Kay. A telegram and letter were received from Young Jim Gritfen, accepting a match against Johnny McKay for May 25, and stating that he would arrive in Gisborne on May 23. Advice was also received from D. Gay, Wairoa, confirming arrangements for his contest with W. McKay. The match committee reported that terms for the two six-round contests had been submitted to the local professionals concerned, and accepted by them. This committee was instructed to arrange, if possible, a reserve amateur bout for the tournament. The following officials were appointed for the tournament: —Referee, Mr. F. Dominy; judges, Messrs. G. Nelson and J. Allen; timekeepers, Messrs. C. 0. Hansen and A. Stoneham ; gong steward, Mr. H. P. Hamilton; official seconds, Messrs. C. Church and G. Graham. It was reported that new training rooms had been arranged for, and were now available for all boxers The chairman raised the question of membership, pointing out that the committee had received quite a number of nomination forms, and that he personally was receiving inquiries every day from those wishing to become members. Mr. Jeune said that although old members should have the opportunity of renewing their membership, they could not expect the committee to keep the list open indefinitely. He moved that last year’s members be given until Tuesday next to renew subscriptions, and that any vacancies after that be filled from the applications in hand, and in the order received 1 . This was carried. The acting-secretary reported that arrangements had been mane for members to reserve seats for next week’s tournament until Friday next. Mr. Smale reported that some of the association’s chairs and gear that had been loaned had not been returned, and the secretary was instructed to advertise that they must be handed in immediately.
