(Herald Correspondent.) .The mortal remains of tlie late Mr. Rangi Tahi were laid to rest on Monday afternoon. The deceased, who was 36 years of age, was a returned soldier, leaving New Zealand with the 2nd Maori Contingent. He had been a patient in the Wairoa Hospital for the past 12 months, suffering from a war disability and from which lie succumbed. There was a large congregation, both Maori and pakeha, to pay their last respects to one so well known in the district. The service, which was most impressive, was conducted by the Rev. W.. Mataira, assisted by Mr. Tamakaku, lay reader. The Nuhaka Returned Soldiers’ Association was represented by 25 members, six of whom carried the casket to the grave. A number of floral tributes testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held. To the sorrowing) widow deep sympathy is extended. On Sunday morning Douglas, the infant son of Mr. and Airs. W. Ropotini, was laid to rest. The service, which was conducted by the Rev. Air. Timptimu, assisted by Sister May Gardiner, was attended by a large assembly. The little boy, who was five months old, died suddenly. To the sorrowing -parents the deepest, sympathy is extended by the community. The many friends of Mr. W; Simmonds will be sorry to learn that he has had to enter the Napier Hospital. A speedy recovery to health and strength is hoped for. —Mr. R. Steed, jun., is on a holiday visit to Wellington and New Plymouth.—Airs. W. Boyle, accompanied by her son and daughter, Bruce and Nyra, are visiting Wellington.—Mr. W. Gold stone and family are on a holiday visit to Wairoa.—Miss Mary Tait, Morere, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. Macdoqald, Wairoa. J
