MR. AND MRS. E. L. CULLEN FAREWELLED (Herald Correspondent.) Oa Friday evening there was a very large gathering of the Nnhaka community and people from all the surrounding districts who assembled to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Is. L. Cullen, who are leaving the district to take up their residence in Hastings. In spito of the inclement weather, there was a good number of people from Waitoa and Frasertown. Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Mr. It. L. Marker, Mayor of Wairoa, Mr. T. W. G. Tombleson, vice-president of the Nnhaka A. and P. Society, Mr. R. S. Steed, J.P., and Mr. J. T. Begley, president of (he Labor Party, Nnhaka. The evening was. taken up with dancing, and a number of vocal items were given. During an intermission, Mr. D. A. Mayo, one of Nuliaka’s oldest residents, speaking on behalf of the, assembly, said lie was voicing the sentiments of all tho settlers when he expressed regret at losing Mr. and Mrs. Cullen, who had been willing helpers in anything for tho benefit of the district. As a token of tho district’s esteem, he handed Mr. and Mrs. Cullen a cheque. Other speakers wore Mr F. H. Young, president of the Nnhaka R.S.A.; Mr. D. At Hughes, president of the Wanderers’ Football Club; Mr. D. Mallin, Druids’ Lodge; Mr. C. Jennings, unemployed workers; and Mr. J. Smith, on behalf of the native race. Music was rendered during the evening by Mr. 0. Waerea, while Messrs. D. Hughes and H. Taurama played extras. Mr. C. Bruton was M.C.
