WRIGHT, STEPHENSONIMPROVED TRADING RESULTS The accounts of Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, for the year ended March 31 show a credit balance in the profit and loss account of £41,354, this being the net trading profit for the year. From this has been deducted the interim dividend on preference shares paid in November, amounting to £6246, leaving a balance available for distribution of £35,108. Out of this sum the directors recommend that, after making the fixed payment, including a halfyear’s dividend in arrears on the pre-’ ference shares, a dividend of 3 per cent, bo paid on ordinary shares, leaving £13,609 to bo earned forward. MINING NEWS OPERATIONS AT WAIHI The following information has been cabled to the London offico of tho Waihi Gold Mining Company:— No. 4 Level.—Martha lode, north branch crosscut to south: At 329 ft. rwest and at 24ft. in the upper 4ft. of face is quartz assaying 7s 3d a ton. The lower 4ft. consists of country with stringers of quartz. No. 5 Level. —Martha lode, north branch: Driving west the next 13ft. assays 3s 3d a ton. The reef is wider than the drive. The north wall being in hand we are now crosscutting at 520 ft. Martha lode: Driving west tho next 50ft. assays 3s fid a ton. The Meat Board reviews the position as follows: “The lamb market is very firm with prices of lightweights improved, whilst heavyweights are steady. The demand is widening with warmer weather. “Mutton.—Wethers are easier except for lightweights. Efoos are meeting with fair trade at lower prices. “For beef the demand is better, but prices are unchanged. “New Zealand porker pigs are firmer, owing to short supplies, with good demand for the time of the year. For New- Zealand baconer pigs the market is quiet and unchanged.’’ Lamb quotations published yesterday in the London message were, incorrectly stated. Exceptionally cheap rates ruled for apples at the Auckland Cfity Markets on Friday, prices being reduced by from 6d to Is 6d a case, with tine lowest grades selling at Is a ease.
